Mengen und Teile - Doris Frohnapfel
Die Kölner Künstlerin Doris Frohnapfel (*1959) beschäftigt sich in ihrer künstlerischen Installation mit zahlreichen und vielfältigen Scherbenartefakten der Frechener historischen Keramik. Frohnapfels künstlerischer Ansatz offenbart ein typisch europäisches Geschichtsbewusstsein, das vom Wissen um die Eingebundenheit in eine Entwicklung geprägt ist.

Frohnapfels Werk schärft das skeptische Bewusstsein dafür, wie viele vergangene Zustände in einer augenblicklichen Erscheinung vorhanden und eventuell noch weiterhin wirksam sind. Was ist prima vista lesbar, was sollte gründlicher hinterfragt werden? Der Zusammenhang von Erinnerungsfähigkeit und Vorstellungsvermögen ist gesellschaftlich immer wieder relevant: Die Verdrängung, die Verweigerung, zu erinnern, behindert auch unsere Fähigkeit zur Imagination und zu positiven Visionen.(Birgit Laskowski)

Doris Frohnapfel. Amounts and Parts
With her artistic installation, Cologne artist Doris Frohnapfel (*1959) takes a closer look at numerous different shard artefacts from Frechen’s historical ceramic works. Frohnapfel’s artistic approach shows a typically European form of historical awareness, which accepts the involvement in a process of evolution.

Frohnapfels work sharpens our sceptical apprehension of how many past shapes are still present in the outer appearance at a given moment and whether these past shapes might actually still be influential. What can we read at first sight, what should we scrutinise more closely? Time and again, the connection between the capacity of remembering and the ability to imagine has an impact on society: Denial, refusing to remember, also obstructs our ability to imagine and to develop positive visions.(Birgit Laskowski)
